Havana’s Annual Pumpkin Festival – Saturday, October 16, 2010

The annual Pumpkin Festival is Havana’s signature event and the perfect way to celebrate the beautiful fall season. Streets are lined with art, crafts, and food vendors selling their wares. The town comes alive in a carnival-like atmosphere full of activities for the entire family: hay rides, pony & obstacle courses, costume contests, games, face-painting, magicians, pumpkin decorating and much, much more. Local merchants show their creativity with beautiful displays of pumpkins, Halloween and fall décor.

Visit the uniquely-decorated “pumpkin patch” where you can purchase that perfect pumpkin…and hear an old fashioned yarn told by the mesmerizing storyteller! Pumpkin festival proceeds benefit, in part, benefit Native Americans & The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Two newly-added attractions during Pumpkin Festival this year include a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk and a Stroller Parade! The run/walk will wind through one of Havana's most serene neighborhoods and prizes will be awarded to winners in various age groups by sponsors and local merchants/cafes. Pre-registration is strongly urged. The Stroller Parade starts @ 10:00 a.m. (right after the 1 mile run) & guarantees to be unique and fun. Dress up your toddler AND decorate your stroller. And while you're at it, dress-up yourself! Prizes will go to the Best-Decorated Stroller, Best-Dressed Baby/Toddler, and Best Dressed "Strollee" (person pushing the stroller!) No registration necessary. Just "show up!"

Plan on spending the night or the entire Pumpkin Fest week-end in one of many hotels or bed & breakfasts, located within easy proximity to the Pumpkin Festival, in Quincy or Tallahassee.

The PF is sponsored, in part, by the Havana Merchants Assn., Gadsden & Leon County Tourist Development Councils and the Town of Havana. Thank-you.

Havana’s Annual Holiday Parade & Lawn Mower Contest – Saturday, December 11, 2010

Getting into the holiday spirit has never been more fun! How creative can you be in decorating your riding lawn mower like a parade float? Or, if you have a golf cart that you wish to decorate, those are also welcomed. Let your imagination run wild! You may choose a holiday theme or any crazy, zany, fun idea that is creative and original enough to win one of 4 cash/gift certificate prizes. Lawn mowers & golf carts are judged separately. First & second place winners in both categories are eligible to win one of 2 cash/gift certificate prizes totaling $300! Putting together your “float” is a fun family project that stimulates everyone’s imagination. Watching the parade is a real treat, so bring your camera!

Prior years’ contests have seen floats decorated like: the Red Baron airplane, a pirate ship, Noah’s Ark, Santa’s sleigh and 8 tiny reindeer, a choo-choo train, fishing boat, an outhouse, and more. And as an added feature to the parade, antique cars and other “fun” vehicles are featured. Santa & Mrs. Clause can also be spotted on their special float. Food & craft vendors line the streets, and there are games & activities for all ages.

To enter the parade/contest, just complete the Participant Application and e-mail to Karen Burke and/or Sandi Beare, or mail to: Lawn Mower Parade, P. O. Box 666, Havana, FL 32333. Call 539-7422 for more information. Download The Lawn Mower Parade Participant application
